“Don’t feel bad about Greg,” Dana said to me as I moped in her condo later.

“I shouldn’t have said that about his father. It was a line too far. Greg is nothing like Leif. He was just concerned for me.”

“He was possessive and crazy,” Emma said as she assembled the bagel pizzas on Dana’s kitchen island.

“Don’t ride crazy’s dick, even if the sex is out of this world.” Dana poured us all more wine. She and Emma clinked glasses.

But my friends hadn’t been there in the compound. They weren’t there in my nightmares. I knew what Greg was afraid of.

Maybe I should have listened to him.

I shivered and went to close the blinds.

“I pay a lot of money for this view,” Dana complained.

“I just feel like someone is watching me.”

“Maybe it’s Greg. You should flash him!” Emma snickered.

“What if it’s his father?” I said in concern.

“Don’t let Greg psych you out,” Dana told me.

“You need a brownie,” Emma said.

“No,” Dana corrected, “you need alcohol. Drink your wine.”

The alcohol and chocolate helped.

But not enough to keep me from wishing, when I was alone in my apartment that night, that I was safe with Greg instead.
